What can friends do to help?

Often people want to help, but don't know what would be helpful, or feel at a loss in the face of what seems overwhelming. Often people need help, but don't know how to ask. Below is a list of things that are helpful things to offer to do, or useful things to ask for when someone says "let me know if I can do anything to help"

Shopping.
Ironing
Mow the lawn
Make soups/casseroles
Walk the dog
Put on a load of washing
Etc.

Practical tasks are often the ones that take the effort, energy or time that someone who is having treatment doesn't have.
